Serving Beyond the Clinic Walls

Dr. Jeff Kennedy, an orthopedic surgeon specializing in joint replacements at Capital Ortho in the Greater Jackson area, exemplifies this biblical principle in his life and work. His heart for mission work drives him to extend his expertise and compassion far beyond the clinic walls, serving communities locally and abroad.

A Heart for Missions

Dr. Kennedy’s first mission trip was in the late 1990s to Iquitos, Peru, where he provided both orthopedic and dental care. Since then, he has participated in over a dozen mission trips, traveling to places like Africa with Samaritan’s Purse, El Salvador with Operation Walk, Peru through various organizations, and Haiti with One Mission Society.

He also volunteers locally with Eight Days of Hope, a disaster relief organization based in Tupelo, Mississippi. His dedication has inspired his family, with each of his adult children joining him on at least one mission trip.

The “Jackson 5” and Haiti

In the aftermath of Haiti’s devastating 2010 earthquake, Dr. Kennedy assembled a team of colleagues, the “Jackson 5,” which included fellow physicians Dr. Will McCraney, Dr. Parker Ellison, and Dr. Steve Davidson. With the help of Navy Admiral Ted Branch and a Sea Stallion helicopter, they delivered much-needed medical assistance to remote parts of Haiti.

Upcoming Mission in 2025

This summer, Dr. Kennedy will join a team from First Presbyterian Church of Jackson, including Drs. Danny Story and Craig Flowers, for another mission trip. Their goal is to share the gospel and provide essential medical and dental care, vacation Bible school programs, and community support.

Dr. Kennedy reflects, “I truly enjoy helping people and giving back. God has immensely blessed me, and it’s fulfilling to use my skills to bless others by meeting their real-time needs. These trips make you appreciate what you have and remind you of the importance of serving others.”

The team hopes to tangibly express Christ’s love to missionary families, the local church, and the surrounding community.
