Meet Dr. Turner Brown: Orthopedic Surgeon Specializing in Hip & Knee Reconstruction

Meet Dr. Turner Brown

“I view my work as my calling. I am called to do my best unto the Lord. In some way, I feel that my work is an extension of helping to redeem God’s creation by helping patients restore function and give them a productive, happy life back,” said Dr. Turner Brown. “I believe we are called to help others as best we can.”

A Passion for Medicine and Service

Dr. Turner Brown has had a passion for healthcare since childhood. Inspired by his grandfather, a General Practitioner, he grew up in Jackson, Mississippi, in the Belhaven community. Dr. Brown attended First Pres for elementary school and graduated from Jackson Prep after completing junior high and high school.

After beginning his college journey at Ole Miss, Dr. Brown transferred to Mississippi College, where he earned an undergraduate degree in history. He believes his diverse educational background enhances his ability to understand and relate to patients. “Treating patients is not just about science. There’s so much more to it. There’s psychology involved and a lot of learning how to understand and really relate to people,” he said.

The Path to Orthopedics

Dr. Brown’s interest in orthopedics deepened while shadowing Dr. Will McCraney at Capital Ortho. He saw firsthand the rewarding nature of helping patients regain mobility and was fascinated by the opportunity to use his hands in surgery. He completed medical school and an orthopedic residency at UMMC before advancing his expertise with a fellowship in Total Joint Arthroscopy – Hip & Knee Reconstruction in Columbia, Missouri.

Expertise in Hip & Knee Reconstruction

Dr. Brown specializes in hip and knee replacements, driven by a desire to develop expertise in a focused area. He is particularly enthusiastic about robotics-assisted joint replacements, which offer unmatched precision and customization. “These procedures provide the highest level of precision and customization for the patient, resulting in a less painful experience and a more natural-feeling joint,” he said.

Dr. Brown also highlights the variety of treatment options for arthritis, including surgical and non-surgical approaches. “If someone is having joint pain on a daily basis and that pain is interfering with their daily activities, that’s when a conversation about possible joint replacement needs to begin,” he advised.

Committed to the Jackson Community

Dr. Brown is proud to join Capital Ortho’s respected team of physicians and is excited to give back to the community that raised him. He is currently seeing patients at Capital Ortho clinics in Flowood, Madison, Clinton, and Brookhaven.

Dr. Brown is married to Dr. Katie Weggener Brown, a fellow Jackson native and plastic surgery resident at UMMC. Together, they are dedicated to serving the Jackson area for years to come.
